Safety & Burning Tips
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets.
- Avoid burning candles near flammable or combustible materials.
- Candles should always be burned in proper candle holders or
bases.
- Keep lit candles out of drafts.
- To reduce soot, wicks should be trimmed to 1/4" from wax.
- Glass containers may become hot. Always burn candle on a
protected surface. Avoid moving lit candles and discontinue use when
1/2" of wax remains.
- Keep candle wax free of matches, wick trimmings, and debris.
- Extinguish candles when they get within 2" of their holders or
decorations.
- Always use care when extinguishing a flame. Use a candle
snuffer, candle dipper, or blow candle out gently. NEVER USE WATER
- Burning candles can be a fire hazard. Before any candle is lit,
carefully secure all candles in their holders. If the candles are a
part of a decorative arrangement, make sure that the candles are
placed a safe distance from any flammable material. Never leave
burning candles unattended.
- A candle will burn more slowly and evenly if its refrigerated
before using. Wrap the candle in plastic or foil before
refrigerating to prevent wicks from absorbing moisture.
- Candles should be stored flat (to prevent warping) in a cool,
dark, dry place.
- Before dinner or a party, light and extinguish the candles. They
will light more quickly and easily when you are ready to use them.
- Votive candles must be in a container. They are made of a low
melt wax. The tighter the fit the longer the candle will burn.
- When blowing out a candle, hold your finger a safe distance in
front of the flame and blow at it. The air will flow around the
finger and extinguish the candle from both sides. This will prevent
hot wax from splattering.
- Store candles in a cool, dry place. Direct sunlight may fade the
color and prevent a candle from burning evenly.
- An old nylon stocking is great for polishing candles and
removing fingerprints.
- To prevent uneven burning or dripping, keep wicks trimmed at
least 1/4".
- For visual interest, a candle should be either taller or shorter
than the holder, but not the same height.
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle flame with minimum
smoke. This also helps prevent wax spills.
- Do not burn candles for more than one hour per every inch of
their diameter. For example, never burn a 3" wide candle more than 3
hours. Never burn candles unattended!
- To easily remove a candle from its holder, place it (cooled) in
the freezer. When frozen, it will pop out. For a votive, simply put
a teaspoon of water in its holder before inserting the candle into
the holder. (Water helps keep the melted wax from sticking).
- Allow your candle to liquefy to the edge before extinguishing.
The larger the diameter of your candle the longer it will take to
liquefy to the edge. This will help prevent tunneling. Different
fragrances burn at different rates of time.
